To get acquainted yourself with the city history in detail you should go to the Central State Museum of Kazakhstan which is located at Furman Street in front of the southern residence of the President. Its right-angled, three-story building is adorned with nine spherical vaults, the biggest vault is situated in the center and eight small ones are into its perimeter. The combination of white facing stone and bright blue vaults looks neat and light. There is a little square with ponds, stone bridges, compositions made out of stones and weeping willows in front of the building.

120 thousand of museum pieces of the constant exposition situated in four huge halls and 200 thousand in museum funds. The history of Kazakhstan, science earliest times has been reflected in it. Here it can be seen traditional clothes, embellishments of Kazakh people and people living in Kazakhstan, to acquaint yourself with their way of life and craftsmanship. It`s particularly interesting to see the pictures showing the history of the city. About the earthquakes of 1887and 1910 years, about the strong mud rock flow, gone down along the Malaya Almatinca stream canal in 1921.
Even if you are not particularly interested in history, you can visit a few shops in the building, which sell carpets, souvenirs, jewellery, paintings and sculpture. The museum working hours are from 10:00 to 18:00, all days except for Tuesday.
