New Square and the Monument of Independence.

New square is the main square of the city, the place where are carried out all festival processions, celebrations, sport festivals, parades. This is the biggest square of the city- 580 meters long and 210 meters wide. New Square is a pleasant place for walks, there is a beautiful panorama: from the one side you can see peaks of the Zailinski Alatau, from another one buildings of the city. In the summer evenings it`s so nicely to seat on a worm parapet made out of grate and breath in the fresh air coming from the mountains.

The Monument of Independence dedicated to the history of republic is located in thecenter of New Square. This grandiose architectural complex erected in 1996, consists of column 28 meters long and sculptural group. It`s history of Kazahstan from Queen Tamaris times to present day symbolically reflected in this monument. In the center of the complex there is a column skyrocketed, crowned by a figure of Gold Warrior racing on a winged leopard.
